I'm walking on average between 2.0 and 2.2 mph. My treadmill is old and has a slider for the speed so it's hard to get exact.
I'm curious as to how fast others are walking and what you typically do while walking. I am a programmer so I'm working on some programming projects; i.e. lots of typing. I also check all my social networking and other such time wasters.
I think if I bump it up, I'll have troubles with the mouse from my body moving too much. I'm 5'2" so my legs are pretty short.
I usually do 1 MPH. I used to slow it down a bit when I was on the phone, but I've found I don't need to anymore. At least I feel like I'm winded when I talk and walk anymore.
I've been thinking about trying to bump it up a bit, but I don't want to get too hot. Guess I'll bump it up for the rest of the day and see how it goes. I'll try to remember to report back.

2.0 for typing/working/webwork.
2.5-3.0 watching movies or reading or listening in while muted on teleconferences - anything without hand coordination.
No incline b/c it kills my shins.
Bought a standing fan to keep from getting too hot.
1.5 seems to be working OK for me. If I get beyond that the treadmill gets too loud. Now I just wish I could set my treadmill to 1) start automaticly at 1.5 instead of 1.0 and 2) turn on by itself, once I step on the track.
Hey,
I am also in the Visual Artist area for work and only use a Wacom Tablet.
I have yet to experiment and see if it can even be done walking for the work that I do,
which includes pixel precise cutting people/things out of footage to make
mattes to give to the Compositors (I'm currently a Rotoscoper).
I think thats the reason I want to move more now cause ive been dead still for ages while working.
This makes it hard for my career but hoping I can work something out.
Other options I was thinking was maybe a Stepper machine or even an recumbent mini portable bike
to fit under the desk....
EDIT (little late)
i guess i could use a EXTRA LARGE display to help with those pixel precise moments using a
lower resolution so everything is extra large.....???? maybe
After some experimentation, I found that 2.3 is perfect for me (5'8" with a stride much longer than my 5'1" wife's). It keeps the bobbing up and down to a minimum, and allows me to type quickly. I, too, am a programmer (at least, while I'm doing treadmill work), and have found that the only thing that is difficult to pull off is cropping graphics, which requires a bit of hand-eye-no-bobbing-up-and-down coordination. To get around the problem, I just bump up the magnification a few levels to accommodate the bit of mouse movement).
2.0 seems to work the best for me. I can do almost everything at that speed and it doesn't hurt near as much as going 1.0 did. the work surface for my keyboard and mouse has a slight incline to it and my husband was working on a way to make it flat, but I also just realized that an incline of 3 makes everything even out and so far seems to work out very nicely. Some times if I'm not on the phone or replying to e-mails and just monitoring a job that I have running on a remote PC; I like to kick the speed up to around 4.0 or 5.0. It feels nice to run for a little bit and then kick it back down for regular work. I was actually quite pleased to see that I went 10 miles yesterday and again today.
Yes, I can't do any graphic work while on here. And if I go faster than 2.5 or so, I start to be unable to click and drag well. Always missing the target. I'm 5'2"
