Office Walkers

Working @ 100 Calories Per Hour

I'm walking on average between 2.0 and 2.2 mph. My treadmill is old and has a slider for the speed so it's hard to get exact.

I'm curious as to how fast others are walking and what you typically do while walking. I am a programmer so I'm working on some programming projects; i.e. lots of typing. I also check all my social networking and other such time wasters.

I think if I bump it up, I'll have troubles with the mouse from my body moving too much. I'm 5'2" so my legs are pretty short.

Just got my treadmill up and going with the laptop, and am pleased to find that I can walk 2 miles per hour without hurting my accuracy or concentration. Maybe 1 mile per hour works well for some people, but it seemed way too slow to me.

This is an old discussion, but I'm a new user! I started slow, about 0.7 mph and it was too slow...once I got used to the motion I really needed to speed it up. I'm pretty comfy now at about 1.7 mph; I tried 2 mph but couldn't quite type.

And now and then I stopped the treadmill and work just standing, but that can be deadly on the lower limbs...if I don't move my feet really swell. The walking prevents that, but I do agree that barefoot walking is also not a good idea..my treaddesk treadmill has a rock hard surface (good for using a stool if I need to, but I dont').

bumpy...
I was wanting to know if any others have had any hip soreness or other injuries from walking on the treadmill desk?
I seem to be getting more and more outer hip tightness/pains from the more stress that comes from walking on the treadmill compared to normal outside walking. Mainly the slower speeds seem to be doing the damage to me (1mph), but going faster is not ideal for my current computer tasks.
Really sucks because I really love my treadmill desk and don't want to revert back to sitting ant time soon and standing brings more pains to my knees and feet... can't seem to win
Cheers

I have been having heel pain lately. I need to replace my shoes, I guess. No problems with the hips. I typically go 1.5 mph. I'm just typing or point / clicking.

Perhaps alternate a bit more, sitting for an hour / walking for an hour. I hate always sitting, but it isn't bad if you break it up. Or if you have spells where your computer tasks are more data entry, you can walk faster during those, and then sit for tasks that require more precision. (Do you have a height adjustable desk? I don't remember if you have said.)

yea, your right, will try your tips. and no i don't have an adjustable work desk. I really need a high draft stool though for sitting. Apparently I may have an family hip condition that hinders blood flow to my feet/legs from my hip areas. Even after 10 mins of siting down I get up with pins and needles in feet and occasionally numb toes... not good :(
Will have to seek more professional opinion on this 1.

CHeers though,
Shono

I started out at 1.7MPH. I think I could easily go to 2.0, but I think I might break a sweat at that speed after a while. I actually think faster speeds might be easier on the hips.
