I'm a designer for a Building Products company in the Sacramento area. My company started a wellness program last summer that consisted of sitting around being lectured at about diet. I felt this was ineffective & began researching ways to actually improve health. In the summer of '95 I took a 3 month, 1800 mile bicycle trip. I averaged 50 miles per day, with days off & layovers to enjoy the areas I was passing thru.
From this experience I knew that the simple expedient of physical exercise, while having another goal (my goal was getting from where I was to where I wanted to be) would get you into great shape without your even realizing it was happening.
I've set up my treadmill desk to see if the low level exercise of slow-walking will do, over the course of the year, what bicycling 1800 miles did in 3 months.
