Julian replied to Harvey Bernstein's discussion Office Fitness Treadmil
"I'm in the UK, and I looked at this treadmill too. In the end I decided it probably wasn't really going to be up to my intended usage, so I went for the Lifespan one instead. Looking around, there are several office furniture companies…"

Julian replied to James L. Dam's discussion Question about Lifespan TR1200-DT3
"Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that is the default case. You can turn off the auto-stop feature in the engineering menu, but after a manual pause the speed always resets to the minimum speed (0.4mph/0.6kph). Yes, it *is* a really stupid design…"

Julian replied to James L. Dam's discussion What should I buy?
"I can't comment on the desk part, but my Lifespan treadmill desk seems reasonable - nicely built inside. The only negative is the pretty awful software supplied. TBH, I wouldn't over worry about the power of the motor, as it seems a…"

"As you say, it is just over a month now. I'm up to using it for about an hour a day so far. It would be more, but I've been wrestling with a mis-behaving computer, so I have had to spend hours trying diagnose the problem :( Yes, I will…"

"Hi Julian, It's about a month later and I wonder how much you're using the treadmill now. I'm trying to decide whether to switch or not. Do you think you'll stick with it, and why or why not? What's working and what's…"

"I've just bought the lifespan treadmill desk and in general I'm quite pleased. There are a few minor bad points (the flimsy motor cover, poor software, and only two levelling feet on the desk, not four) but in general it seems reasonable…"

Julian replied to Steve W.'s discussion Recommendations for Heavier Individuals
"The great Sheldon Brown described the maximum pressure marked on bicycle tyres as "a compromise reached between the engineering, marketing and legal teams" of the supplier. I suspect the maximum weight for treadmills uses a similar process…"

Julian replied to Steve W.'s discussion Recommendations for Heavier Individuals
"The heavier duty lifespan desk (TR5000) is rated for 400lb, but is quite expensive ($2500 on their website, vs $1500 for the TR1200). Assuming you could lose 0.5% of your weight per week (~1.5 lbs) you would be down to 260 lbs after six months or…"

"Love my Lifespan 1200.  I have it under a sit/stand desk, so I can take breaks from walking by standing at the side or sitting in a chair with the desk powered down.  "

Hi, I'm Julian, a software developer in the UK. Like lots of others, I'm far too sedentary, so I have been looking at switching to using a treadmill desk. Apart from the DIY approach, which I'm not sure is a good idea with my skills :), I have found a number of possibilities:1) The Lifespan treadmill desks, probably the 1200 or 5000, simply due to the number of hours I will eventually want to use the desk for per day2) A very low-cost desk/treadmill combo from a merchant on Amazon (…See More
