Fitness bands

Is anyone here using a fitness band that works well with a treadmill desk? So far the only one I've seen that is advertised to work is the FitBit Flex. I was hoping for something a bit more feature…Continue

Getting back into the game

I've finally decided to get back into the game.  Early last year my TreadDesk tread bit the dust.  It had served me well for three years even thought I bought it used off Craigslist from a fella that…Continue

My Treadmill desk "experiment" is over.

After just under a year with my "redneck engineered" treadmill desk, I've decided to go full steam ahead with a new desk.  A few months ago I acquired a used TreadDesk treadmill, which was a good…Continue

Walking May Increase Brain Size and Boost Memory

A very interesting article.  The study shows that moderate aerobic exercise (especially walking) may increase brain size in the memory region.  Treadmill desks just became a bit more awesome.…Continue

Fitness bands

Is anyone here using a fitness band that works well with a treadmill desk? So far the only one I've seen that is advertised to work is the FitBit Flex. I was hoping for something a bit more feature rich (heart rate monitor, iphone notifications, etc) like the Microsoft Band but that particular one is dependent on the movement of your hips or arms, or vibrations from your footsteps to work. They aren't very good for situations where your hands are stationary, which is the case for most people…See More

"Well, I'm operational again.  The new Lifespan tread just arrived.  I'm typing this while walking at 2mph.  It looks like I'm a bit out of practice.  I can still type at this speed but not at my usual…"

Getting back into the game

I've finally decided to get back into the game.  Early last year my TreadDesk tread bit the dust.  It had served me well for three years even thought I bought it used off Craigslist from a fella that actually used it quite a bit.  I've spent most of 2014 sitting on my bum as a result of this but that will come to an end soon.  Today I ordered a Lifespan TR1200-DT3 from Lifespanfitness.com.  No sales tax, free shipping, a free bottle of lube, and $50 off.  $949 out the door.  Previously I was…See More

Rick Boyett replied to Beth H.'s discussion Spec recommendations for used treadmill?
"The main problem with using a treadmill that is meant for running vs a walking tread is that the gearing is set differently.  A tread meant for running may actually burn up sooner if you just use it for walking.  IMO if you are only going…"

Rick Boyett replied to Ray Johnson's discussion Is buying any used treadmill ok for the job?
"You most certainly can do this.  I did it myself to get started.  It took a bit of redneck engineering but it worked great until the motor burned out about 6 months later.  However this kind of setup can help you make up your mind…"

"Oh wow. Nothing beats an electric adjustable desktop. I didn't know that you could just get the frame from Geekdesk. Thanks for sharing. This will be my ultimate goal. Very nice."

Mark Walker replied to Rick Boyett's discussion My Treadmill desk "experiment" is over.
"Rick , I dont think it was the weight she was concerned about , but  raising the center of gravity too high above the frame. that's when I started thing about raising it from underneath. It would definitely be much simpler to just raise…"

Rick Boyett replied to Rick Boyett's discussion My Treadmill desk "experiment" is over.
"I don't think weight is an issue.  A few pieces of scrap would only be about 5 to 10 lbs at the most.  The Geekdesk v2 is rated at 275lbs.  The Geekdesk max can lift 335lbs.  "

Mark Walker replied to Rick Boyett's discussion My Treadmill desk "experiment" is over.
"Rick , Does that mean that you will be putting the chair directly on the treadmill ? I wonder if the feet of the chair could damage the tread ? A while back I asked a Geekdesk phone rep about putting wood underneath the desktop to raise the height…"
