After 7 months on my Treaddesk.

I have been working at my treadmill desk by Treaddesk since the begining of the year and wanted to pass along my thoughts.

Walking while working was much easier to get used to than I thought it would be. By the end of my first day, I was very comfortable and at times forgot that I was even walking. I think I overdid it though early on, by walking 4-5 miles right out of the gate - my legs were a bit sore, but after two weeks that all went away and I was able to walk 4-5 miles without…

Thoughts after my first full month

So for my first full month of using a treadmill desk, I did 91.9 miles. Most weeks I was able to use the treadmill desk about 4 days per week and always tried to get about 200 minutes per day. Why 200? Because that's when the treadmills hits its maximum amount of time and turns off x 2. It's also about 2.5 miles per cycle. Somedays I'd do more and other days I might end up a little less. 4 days a week I work at home and the other day I go into the office for various sales and management… Continue

Blood test one year after stand up desk

Definition: lipoprotein lipase (LPL) (a protein important for controlling plasma triglyceride catabolism, HDL cholesterol, and other metabolic risk factors)

Background: Last year I switched to a stand up desk because I just couldn't take sitting long hours anymore. It hurts like after you drove long distance, day after day. It's either doing a stand up desk or I had to quit my job which wasn't an option. Part of the research for the negative health effects of sitting, I learned that…

My 5K training exercise program

I have just started training for a local 5K race that happens every year, I am a reasonable fit lad but I know I need to improve quickly. The race is in around 7weeks time so I went online a found a great running program that i have added to the end of the blog. I have already started to use the workout and I am hoping that I should be able to run for at least 20minutes (at a good pace) without struggle after I have completed the program.

I have purchased a great treadmill…

Research

"The study also underscores how very short-term changes in diet such as high-fat eating for only a few days, perhaps even less, can induce a state of insulin resistance," says senior study author Peter C. Lucas, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of pathology at the University of Michigan Medical School.

Another step

Ok dropped the idea of using the laminate shelves. Would've taken too many of them and added too much weight. Went to Ikea and got a couple Lack wall shelves that are about 47x10x2. Stacking two of the should give me the height I want plus the core is somewhat hollow making them much lighter. Got some long bolts to connect them when stacked and some pipe clamps to attach the bottom one to the treadmill handles. Also going to use some foam pipe insulation to cushion it where it connects.

Getting closer!

Another step closer to building my proof of concept station around our existing Nordic Trac treadmill. Ordered a couple 27" planar LCDs that were very well rated for 209/each with free shipping, with the LED models being popular the traditional LCD units are a bargain.. Picked up an inexpensive wire shelving unit at target. just need to get some laminate shelves to stack across the handle bars for the keyboard and mouse work surface. With the larger monitors I hope to put more distance between… Continue

Getting ready for the prototype...

I can't even remember how I stumbled across the concept for the treadmill desk but I have been fixated on it ever since. Maybe it was a natural progression using a stand up workstation, not sure. It lead me to do some googling which brought me here...

I've been working on my strategy for a prototype. While I'd like to get a trekdesk or a tr1200dt, it think it makes sense to test the concept first. I currently have an erogtron workfit s sit/stand station in my home office. However my… Continue

Any thoughts on cardio-vascular exercise and office walking?

I am thinking that this is really a great thing to get some exercise while working. But.. this isn't cardio exercise per. se. I don't sweat and my heart isn't going very hard.

Do you more experienced office walkers have any tips on how to get some cardio exercise in your week? I understand that one can be quite tired after a whole day of working on the tread mill and perhaps then skip the more "sweaty" exercise.

What does the research say about different kinds of…

Just bought a Lifespan tr1200-DT. Any advice for a newbie?

Hi all,

I'm new to the community, so I wanted to drop in and say hi.

I just bought a Lifespan TR1200-DT and it's scheduled to arrive tomorrow.  I plan on start out walking on it while browsing the internet in the evenings and eventually work myself up to where I can do my job full time on it.  At least 40 hours a week after several weeks of getting used to it.  I have gained a lot of weight with my desk job the last 5 years, and I need to lose…

after a slow start getting my desk fixed up

Three days in I'm doing well although not so good at typing, or writing while walking- I think I need to get the desk raised slightly as I'm leaning forward to work - and the desk is adjustable - well kind of.....

I have realised that if I continue to get on so well I'll need to invest in a desk made for the purpose as real stability and adjust-ability are key to success.

Actually my main reason for wanting to walk is that I stuffer from mind fog due to the high number of…

One Attorney's Treadmill Desk

Many people desire a fit and healthy body. It is easy to read through fitness magazines and websites and dream of a beach-ready figure. The demands of work and family often crowd out the hard part, finding time to actually exercise.  It is even worse if you have a desk job where you tend to sit for hours on end and expend very…

Second Week

The tour bus had removed my office from its route by the end of the second week. Still occasional visitors, but I'm not the freak show that I was the first week. Ahhh... nice. Next week, I'll be wishing for visitors again. That's just the way I am.

Walking and typing no longer feels unnatural. I've increased speed from last week's 0.7mph to 1.3 mph, and that feels pretty good. My friend Ellen recommended keeping the incline to 2% or less, so I checked, and was surprised to see I'd…

Beware of Treadesk Backorders without notification

FYI - Anyone who plans on ordering a Tread by Treadesk in the furture, please be aware of SEVERE backorders and changes  to backorder status without notification. I ordered mine on Jan. 9 with a backorder ship date of mid February. Now they have pushed it to Late February, which means by the time  it's delivered it could be 8 weeks or longer.

If you are one of the lucky few that received your Treadesk within a couple of weeks, you obviously got one that was a canceled order or they…

First Week

First five miles,Tuesday, was more tiring than I'd expected. Discovered some lower-inner-thigh muscles I'd never paid attention to... they were singing by the time I got home! Figure that's due to my increase in hip-shifting to minimize head bounce. Sure is different walking slowwwwwly versus just taking a hike! I can already see that it's going to benefit my core muscles.

Took it easier Wednesday and Thursday -- only a few miles each day -- and by Friday I was gung-ho again. So the…

The Anti New Year Resolution

Have you made any resolutions for the new year?

I do not typically make resolutions and this year is no different (really).  I started office walking in mid-November, so no need for an exercise resolution right now.  I'm getting more exercise than I have in years.

However, over Christmas break I had a wild hair and read "…
