I ended up getting the Stamina mini-elliptical from Amazon for $90 and use it almost every day while watching TV in the morning before work, and that's it. :-)
Getting the set up to really work is pretty key for me. It was all in the dining room. Needed to have things centralized into the office (and had to get rid of a futon and a china cabinet in the doing!)
Hey, back up and running (as it were) after a hiatus I'll explain later. I teach psychology, and I'm glad to be standing, walking, and (mostly) working! LPR
Hi Brad,
thanks for setting up the Office Walkers web site. I have a suggestion for the site - for those who wish to participate, allow them to log their miles and/or calories burned on a daily basis, perhaps listing of the top milers for the previous week, month, three months, year, etc.
I'm not a web programmer, and don't know if this is feasible, but it may motivate me to walk more. The Twitter post/link by Lauren shows what she is doing, and I assume this helps motivate her to do more:
Things at Muve, Inc are continuing to expand. We have more employees from Medtronic, Best Buy and others now becoming more active at work and using the Gruve to measure their "non-exercise" calorie burn throughout the day. Gruve is being used/tested at Mayo by Dr. Levine and others on a regular basis with great results. You can get your Gruve at www.Muve.Me/Gruve.asp
Hi Brad
I've been looking to get back on here but couldn't at all remember what it was called, luckily I just got spammed on here which has led the way back. I do have my treadmill desk all set up now. I remember you asked me about it before but I can't remember what you asked...
Thanks so much I am glad to be here! I made the leap and I am "tryping" (treading and typing) right now. I am very proud of my set-up and will try to post pics soon. As for that race - see you at the finish line!!
Thanks for the warm welcome folks! I appreciate any helpful ideas!
If I was to go the buying a treadmill and then added a work-surface/ desk myself, such as a TrekDesk my concern is that it won't be ergonomic for everyone. Has anyone out there tried the TrekDesk? and if so, how is the high adjustment feature? I understand that's it's a manual adjustment, which seems like a pain for many users per day.
What are they other companies that make adjustable? (Preferably one that is an electric height-adjustable work-surface).
Finally, if i was to buy a mid-level priced sports treadmill, what should we buy?
Keeping in mind, many different body types will be using it. THANK YOU FOR YOUR IDEAS!
Cheers, Curious Woman
I already ordered the tread desk. Should be here next week. We jut have to elevate my desk and I'm ready to go. A co worker has been walking while working for 2 wks and just loves it. Energy level high and she's down 3 lbs.
I'm already sold.
Good grief. That link has been broken at least a year and a half! Thanks for the pointer!

Thank you. My husband used our treadmill and materials he had around and built a nice little system for me. So far, in four days (according to my treadmill) I have burned 1200+ calories. Have people found that a) they generally stick to walking/working and b) do people regularly use this web site? I think its neat, but doesn't seem to get used as much as I was hoping. Have a great day. Jil
Brad, I think "Welcome to Idaho" is in order. I am in Post Falls, Idaho, due north from Nampa, maybe 200-250 miles. Let me know if you have any Idaho tax questions or part-year resident issues when it comes to tax time.
